In a nutshell: Sets out the DH’s proposed actions as a result of recent consultation into the use of 084 telephone numbers. The majority of public response was that patients should not be charged more than a local call to contact the NHS. The DH does not propose banning the use of 084 numbers in the NHS, but will instead amend existing legislation and guidance to ensure patients do not pay more than an equivalent local call.
